Summary of the July 2006 meeting of the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure.
Dear Nursing Colleagues,
The Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure met on July 20th for its monthly Board meeting. There was a quorum of members in attendance. Points of discussion included a discussion of the concern over staff shortage during the month of August, the delay in the hiring process for a new Executive Director, the mechanism for updating the Boards website, the review and revision of all licensing and renewal office processes to facilitate and reduce turn around time, the preparation of office processes which will be necessary for the Virgin Islands to join the National Databank called NURSYS which then allows for verification of V.I. licenses to be done on online.
A task force has been charged with beginning discussions regarding providing online renewals to the nursing community.
The Rules and Regs committee is currently preparing to provide printed copies of the latest Board Rules and Regulations to have available in the office to any nurse requesting a copy.
There is a task force comprised of community advanced practice nurses which is investigating home births and approrpiate regulatory mechanisms related to home births.
The Board invites your comments and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Cynthia VanWingerden, RN, BSN, MS
Chair, VIBNL
