DECEMBER BOARD MEETING UPDATE

The Board met on Thursday December 14th.

~Discussions were held with 2 representatives from the UVICELL CNA/HHA programs.
~Beginning in January 2007, there will no longer be a requirement for HIV contact hours for renewal of the RN or LPN license. The Board had voted to require a portion of the continuing education contact hours to be in HIV education for the past 2 years. ~Renewal beginning in January 2007 will require meeting two of the following three criteria, employment minimum number of hours 320 in the biennium; 15 contact hours of continuing education in subjects appropriate to the practice of each individual nurse; 15 contact hours of professional activities.
~Work by the Board continues in the areas of partnering in the National Nurse Database known as NURSYS for license verification across the United States and its Territories.
~Work also continues by the Board to put in place mechanisms for online renewals by 2007/2008 biennium.
~The Board hopes soon to have links from this website to the Nurse Practice Act of the Virgin Islands code, and to the Rules and Regulations of the VIBNL.
~~~Next Board meeting will be held January 18, 2007.
Renewals of all LPN licenses and CNA certificates is ongoing for the biennial period 2007/2008.
